Coming Back In April

Well, it's true. I'll be coming back in April, clearly because I finish pretty much earlier than I thought I would in March. So I'll leave off with Part Sixteen, while I'm gone doing random things, please leave comments. It would be really nice and if you want me to read any of your work and want advice, then tell me and I would be glad to do it. I'll be missing Ellie, Kathleen, Stephanie, Jacob, Dueller and Arnold but I know I'll be back typing away shortly with maybe even more drama and quirky adventures. You can also read my first story on blogger, The Things They Don't Tell You.So keep your mind open, read, take Kodak moments and never forget to stay gold. Because you never know when you're going to face, Two Different Roads.

Part Fifteen: Except You Got That Look In Your Eye

"That is what I called my shudders" Arnold said. His was sitting comfortable in his plywood chair, packed with his cushions. A smoke of gray took place in random spots of his full grown and shave beard. They were sitting on the back porch, with Mr. Ringo Star, Arnold's shot gun, laying beside him. The rest of them sat on the rockers chairs with drinking mint tea, which was just hot water and mint leaves. "Why do you call them shudders?" Stephanie asked, sipping the tea. "Why do you called shoes, shoes?" Arnold responded. Stephanie felt shunned, while Arnold cursed under his breath. "Can you smell it? It's hunting season, those blasted birds will be flying over head, and there I am, with Mr. Ringo Star place in my hand like a prized possession, shooting those birds and roasting them in the fireplace" He licked his lips. Arnold took out a wooden box and opened it, inside was a pile of cigars, he took one out and lighted it.

"Dueller, my good man, come talk to me boy. Lets go shoot some duck for me to eat, tonight" Arnold said, the cigar hanging from the side of his mouth and his arm around Dueller's shoulder. "Here take this one" Arnold threw him a shotgun "Oh, bloody hell" Dueller said, as he flipped the gun around his hand. "Hey, don't point the gun at me, would you kid?" Arnold said, annoyed. "Be careful out there, Dueller. Don't worry, Arnold is good guy, unless he tells you something that makes he think more thoroughly" Stephanie said.

"Your words will absolve me, maybe" He said. Arnold and Dueller walked into the deep woods and went by the lake where there was a clear view and it was barren. "Dueller, I heard you're from England, the entertainer" Arnold said, putting the bullets in. "I'm guessing that Ellie must have told you that, didn't she?" "Nope, she didn't. I have my ways boy, didn't you perhaps noticed that I live in what I supposedly called the reclusive area. Didn't you perhaps notice that you rarely so anyone comes up to this place, do you see any houses near me. I think not, Mr. Dueller Thompson" Arnold said, without even flinching he lifted his gun and shot a bird. Dueller looked down at the dirt and looked at Arnold's gray eyes, duller than a donkey's own. "Come on, we've got to keep moving. Can't have any wet bird for dinner".

"Ever been arrested?" Arnold asked, sitting on a tree stump. "No, I've seen my grandfather got arrested but that was having an incredible amount of parking tickets, can't really blame the old man" Dueller joked. "You don't amuse me boy, so I suggest you stop trying to. You didn't even shoot a god damn bird, yet. What are you a chicken? I thought entertainers were suppose to be entertaining" Arnold said. "What are you trying to say me? Why did you even bring me out alone, here, with you?" Dueller asked, feeling as if he wanted a cigarette. "I'm trying to get something out of you boy. If you're really wondering why I bring you out here is because I have one simple question for you: "What really happen to your parents?". Dueller stared back him, he knew that this entire time he was lying about his parents. He didn't answered, instead he shot a bird and walked back towards the house.

The bedroom door was locked and Stephanie was up, worried since Dueller didn't tell her anything. She turned her body fully to him, "What happen, today, with Arnold? You can trust me Dueller, I'm girlfriend" She said, whispering. She wanted to give it to him, just so he can at least confess. "It was nothing, Stephanie. He just kept on asking me questions and told me not to amuse him" Dueller confessed. Stephanie climbed on top of him, "What were the questions?". "Stephanie, by you trying to please me, won't make me confess, just wants me to ask for more" He smiled. Stephanie went back on her side, "Goodnight Stephanie" Dueller said, kissing her. She pulled away and hugged herself, why did he had to be so confidential with himself? She went on her laptop.

Re: Arnold Lippmann and Dueller

Dueller still hasn't told me anything that went on down at Arnold Lippmann's place. I tried to get him to confess but giving it to him, but I'm guessing he knew what I had in mind anyway. All he told me was that he asked him a few questions and told him try not to amuse him [who would EVER try to amuse the reclusive, he never smiles!]. You and Jacob seem like the only couple in the house who have the perfect relationship, I mean my boyfriend wouldn't even bother tell me a thing. But if he finds something he'll start asking me questions. He is really sweet though.

Re: He is really sweet though. . . . .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off, why is everyone [maybe not exactly everyone] is coming to me with their problem?(!!!!!)
But, whatever, Jacob and I don't have such a great relationship. Besides showing our possibly undying love for each other, whenever we get the chance to, but we do have our bad times together. Like when Jacob unloaded waste into the toilet and forgot to use the spray can to burry the smell, so I had to stick with it while taking a shower. I literally had to smell my Dove soap so the smell won't climb up into my nostrils. So, Steph, you aren't the only one who have problems. But I really feel sorry for Kat, I mean she has nobody, I was wonder if she cries herself to sleep when I listen to Jacob's heartbeat, all she has is a soft pillow to listen to. I hope she finds someone, at least.

Rock 'n' Roll,

Re: Thanks and Goodnight
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Ellie, I really thought you two were perfect. But I guess we all go through our own troubles, don't we? I know you'll agree with me, but Dueller has this thing that makes him stand out and the reason why I don't feel like I'm in deep water. He is like my little mircale.

Goodnight,
Stephanie

P.S.: I didn't know you had the same name as Scarlett Johansen!
P.P.S.: Are you guys cousins are what?

You're welcome, Stephanie. Scarlett and I aren't cousin. You haven't notice that I was a Johansen and we've been arch enemies-turned-friends since eighth grade, I guess you were in that big cloud of popualrity.

Goodnight,

Part Fourteen: I'll Use That Voice You Find Annoying

Dueller blue eyes sparkled in the dim sunlight as it bleed through the blinds. He combed his small fingers through Stephanie's dark wispy curls, that sprawled across the pillow. She turned around and faced him, smiling like telepathically speaking, through their brains. He ran his finger across her tender fingers, she quickly pulled back. "Why is it so hard?" He asked. "Guitar practice, my Dad use to teach me. He stopped giving me guitar lessons, after the fight and all. That is why my Mom was hauled away from police, the doctors forced the truth out of me. Wringing me like I was some kind of wash rag. I bet your parents give you lots of freedom" Stephanie explained, turning her back towards him. "My parents died, Stephanie. I just have my grandparents, my only family" Dueller said, his blue eyes turned dead. Stephanie rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
Her eyes caught a glimpse of their Converse shoes, the four pairs made a heart. She felt a hand laid flatly on her clothed stomach, it was Dueller's but he was slowly falling back to sleep.

"Oh, wow . . . ." Jacob said, staring at Kathleen who was smiling. They were playing another game of poker, with Oreos and cans of ginger ale. Kathleen was dealing out the cards, as she recalled a story they learned in sixth grade they never understand. "Well, I still believe that 30 years from now I wouldn't care about how dress. Now, enough of the lectures Kat, give me my darn Oreos. Where is Stephanie and Dueller anyway? They've been upstairs in that room too long. . . ." Ellie said, her lips curling up mischievously and her eyebrows slowly rising making creases on her forehead. Her brown eyes looked at both Jacob and Kathleen who giggling at the hypothesis Ellie made.

Dueller came down the stair holding hands with Stephanie who looking a bit cherry herself. They join the rest of them laughing, when everything went silent. "Kathleen, what happened between you and Connor?" Jacob asked, studying his cards and picking another card from the pack.

Stephanie was sitting at the piano, playing it, with Dueller strumming the guitar. She was playing "Foundations" by Kate Nash, she stared at him and repeated the words:

My fingertips are holding onto the
Cracks in our foundations,and I know that I should let go,but I can't.
And every time we fight,I know its not right
,every time that your upset and I smile,
I know I should forget,but I can't.

Dueller looked at her in awe, "You can sing, Stephanie". Stephanie began blushing, she knew that she wasn't in love with Dueller at all, they were just friends. They didn't do anything last night, but slept together and on the same bed, but why was she blushing so much? "I never really sung to anyone before, I just took piano lessons and things like that" Stephanie said. Kathleen saw that Dueller was falling hard for Stephanie "She isn't worth it, Dueller" Kathleen stated. Everyone stared up at her, Stephanie redness flushed away quickly as she looked up at Kathleen. "What are you talking about Kathleen?" "Dueller, she just isn't worth it, you drooling over her. She isn't falling for you, she just want to be your friend" Kathleen said, swallowing. Dueller looked back at Stephanie, who was touch the piano keys without making a sound.

"Dueller, she is right, if we were able to rewind back to the first day we met. I didn't like you then, I didn't barely knew you. But after I got to know you more, you've made me realize things I've been missing out all my life" Stephanie was tugging on Dueller's sleeve. They were upstairs, by where Stephanie had fallen. Dueller tried to pull away, but she held on tightly. She let go of him and sat down on the bed, watching him silently venting, trying not to touch his cigarette packet. Stephanie held onto his sleeve again and he stopped, "I know what your problem is," Stephanie said, looking up at him. "You're the type of person who doesn't listen to their heart, and is more likely to listen to others, aren't you?" Stpehanie continued, stadning up and facing him. "What are you--" Dueller's sentence was cut short, when Stephanie's lips met his. A rush of warmness swept through their blood vains, as Stephanie wrapped her arms around his neck and his hands around her waist. He wasn't angry anymore after that.

Part Thirteen: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Dueller walked over to Stephanie who looked terrible tired and as if a troll did her hair. But Dueller didn't recognized that at all, he only saw this damsel in distress, and he went to her rescue. Stephanie stand there, watching the bristle faced boy walking towards her, she twitch her head a few times. But she still stand there, in completely in a dream day mode. "Hi,I'm Dueller". She couldn't breathe, she felt as if that heavy English accent was gas that she accidentally breathe in. Any minute now she will topple over the banister and rolled down the staircase, making a complete fool of herself. Instead she looked like a blown up frog, her cheeks were puffed out and her large grown eyes seemed to completely swallow Dueller. He stared at her in amazement, was it that possible that a girl could her breath for at least 5 seconds now. Dueller, took his hands and pressed her cheeks, releasing all the gas. Stephanie smiled and looked down over the banister, "I'm Stephanie" She said, twisting her dark curls.

He smiled back at her, and placed one hand in his back pocket, he felt the cigarette packet but quickly took out his hand. He looked over the banister too, but somehow his eyes fell into Stephanie's sparkling round green eyes, she look back at his. He slowly reached for her hand, he held for a long time rubbing her knuckles. Stephanie felt herself turning red, and she felt the need to give a leak. But she couldn't, her foot felt as if someone bolted them into the ground.

Then she remembered everything, the kiss with Kathleen, her drunken mother falling flat onto her face, being in the same bed in the nude with her best guy friend, her drinking bottles of liquor and being in rehab. Everything seem to hit her in every direction whether she turned right or left. She pulled her hand and began walking backwards slowly, Stephanie wasn't sure where she was, why wasn't she out shopping? Why does she smell like fatty yogurt? Why didn't she had nay make-up on? Why is she acting like a coward? Why was she becoming the superficial Stephanie Cornell? She felt as if the world was spinning uncontrollably, she felt warm and she began sweating, she felt weak, powerless. Stephanie took her last blink of an eye and then she hit the floor.

The thump was hard against the floor, Dueller swore her head cracked against the floor. Jacob and Dueller tried to see if she'll wake up, but she didn't move. They rushed her to the hospital, no one went home that night. Dueller hung his down, he was sitting on the gray chair staring at the crumpled piece of paper. He took out his guitar and laid the crumpled paper on the other chair, he strummed a few chords and soft melody came out his curved cherry red mouth:

Trying to breathe, but you can't.
Trying to open your eyes, but everything seem to be
Not alright. Wishing you can fly away, away from the world.
The worlds are spinning now, there's nothing left around you.
Feeling like your laying on the ground, desperate to hear a sound.
Only there is nothing left around you.
Seeping into the water, only trying to breathe,
but then you go into a dark sleep.

Everything is still, everything seems to be blocked out of your mind.
Everything seems to be not alright. So what are you going to do,
so what are you going to do. . . .when here today, when gone tomorrow,
I hope I'll see you soon darling.

So what are you going to do. . . . . when you weeping on the floor, when not there
anymore. You'll still remain in my heart forever, you'll hold your peace.
Screaming Infidelities, wrung your insides, but don't worry, if there's a
hole in your heart, but am I mistaken--

"I want to see my child, I want to see my child" A lady came rushing down the hallway. The doctor made her stop right in front of Dueller. She had the same slim curved figure as Stephanie, her big green eyes deepened in her eye sockets, her pointy nose was red from the brim. Her arms hanged loosely at her sides and her fingers looked like she didn't have a single flesh on her bones. Dueller continued to strum his guitar, while taking a few glances at the woman with her arms crossed against her chest. The lady sharply turned her head at Dueller and stared him down, the looked back the exit which was glowing red even though the lights were bright. He began whispering the soft melodies, and looking up through his eyebrows slowly furrowing to anger. He knew who mother was that as soon as he heard the doctor speaking quietly to the receptionist, "But Mrs. Cornell wants to see her child, you can't ban a mother from seeing her damn child, Maureen. The child is in there, the best thing we can do is let her see her child before it's too late" the doctor looked as if he wanted to fling his notepad at the receptionist, but she seemed like the stubborn type, who is only there for the drama then go and gossip with her friends about what happen in the hospital, every single detail.

Both Dueller and Mrs. Cornell watched the doctor and receptionist bickering back and forth. "Shut up the god damn guitar, boy. This ain't no god damn club, this here is a public hospital. They ain't paying you" Mrs.Cornell said. She had a heavy southern accent but some how a New Yorker accent lay solemnly beneath it, like milk in a cow. Dueller stilled continued, "I'm not doing it for the money". Mrs.Cornell green eyes darken, and it seemed like her dark pink tank top turned red. "Oh, so your one of those rich little English boys, right? Am I right? I know I am, look at you sitting there strumming your guitar away like nothing in the world just happen, like someone ain't dead, like global warming never happen. Well, you know what, you don't belong here, you shouldn't be sitting in that seat. Look at my daughter, she ain't rich, but you know what she doesn't mind, she lives with the clothes I give, she eat the food I give her but if her father hadn't left on business trip, maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't be living in that dump. So why you don't you just leave boy, take your ass back to England and drink all the god damn tea you want" Mrs. Cornell said, she was walking up to him, shaking her head. Ellie and Jacob arrived running down the hallway, Kathleen trailing behind them. They were already out of breath, Ellie and Jacob clutching each other hands looking as if any one of their hands will burst open. Kathleen looked as white as a sheet, sitting next to Dueller, waiting for the news.

Stephanie's door opened and one foot came out, then the other. But it stopped, not moving anymore, there was a few whispers and Mrs.Cornell waiting intensely, her jaw line was bleeding through her tight skin. Stephanie's dark wispy curls came bouncing down the hallway, her face was brighten and she was walking towards them, smiling. She bit her lips, with her hands in her back pockets. But her smile disappeared when she saw her mother's stricken face. Duller suddenly stood up and took Stephanie by her hand and looked at with his eyes, almost saying, "Are you sure you want do this?" . Stephanie nodded her head, and let go of his hand, "She won't hurt me. Not this time". Her mother stared at her, with her eyes full to the brim with tears. She looked the other direction and saw the police officers coming down the hallway. "I'm sorry" Mrs. Cornell said, while they put on the handcuff. When Stephanie and the rest of them got home, she lead Dueller into a room. She closed the door behind her and they were in the dark facing each other. She hesitated even though all things she had done was coming back to clearly, but she looked up into his eyes, "I need it".

Part Twelve: Sick Lullabies, Choking On Your Alibis

"She blinked her eyes just a few times, wondering where the world had gone. She couldn't breathe for a while now. Thinking she had gone too deep" Dueller sang, strumming the guitar softly. Kathleen was sprawled out on the bed, hearing the guitar softly strumming. Her brown curls speared across the bulky pillow. She blinked her a few times, staring out at the frosted window. She rise from the bed, and walked towards the window. The pressed her hand against it and stared out at the perfect view of the lake water, she pushed the window a bit to get some air even though the smell from the lake lifted the atmosphere. She turned around, and Dueller looked up from his guitar his blue eyes shining. It wasn't cold or mean, it was soft and seem to be blurry. He beamed at Kathleen, "Good morning Kathleen, I brought some hot chocolate down from the bar. I knew you weren't like Connor and I, always drinking beers and things like that. We didn't want to destroy your mind or your body, like what we did, mostly me actually" Dueller said, blushing and smiling.

His teeth were pearly white and it didn't seem as if even smoke or even drink. "Thanks. How old are you?" Kathleen asked, sitting across from him at the small dining table. Kathleen didn't took her hot chocolate right away, she couldn't since it was too cold to drink so they went down to the bar and 2 more cups, they sat by the window. "Fifteen years old. I forged my driver licenses, everyone thinks I'm sixteen. My parents died on my birthday, I felt as if I had nothing to live for anymore. What could I do for myself? I turn into the world of alcohol and smoking, I still do all these things. But somehow, I turned back to my guitar and began to writing lyrics" Dueller explained, his cupped his hands around the mug of hot chocolate took a sip. "So who is your guardian?" Kathleen asked. "My grandparents, they treat me like their own son. They welcome with warm hands even though I had my problems" He smiled. Kathleen smiled back and took a sip of hot chocolate, letting the hot substance go slowly down her dry throat. It was gauche silence, when a drunken Connor came in. He was tottering as he walked towards them, his black t-shirt had crisp white stain, it look like a lighting sign. His black hair was messy and his jeans were slacking.

"You guys, that party was awesome. It was the biggest blow-out ever! It was being the 1970s again, with these gigantic lava lamps. Then the waitress had these neon lights things, on the hair and one of them let me had it! Let me, let me show you! Oh,oh well I lost it but forget about that. It was an awesome party, dude you should have gone there" Connor said, laughing and pointing his finger in their faces. "I think we should take him upstairs" Dueller suggested. When they got to the room, Connor was still carrying away. "Kat, come on lets go to the party, it's going to be fun we can kiss and watch other couples kiss too, maybe even watch the gay couples to do it!" Connor shouted, leaning in to kiss her. "Connor, no, you're drunk!" Kathleen shouted, slapping him in his face. It felt as if the slap Kathleen gave him echoed in the room like a trap that caught a rat.

He turned his face slowly, and anger was drawn onto his face. "Don't you ever slap me!" He shouted, spit splurging out of his mouth. He shook Kathleen violently, and Kathleen was screaming. Dueller heard the screaming as he came up the stairs after getting some pills to put Connor to sleep. Dueller barged into the room, and saw Connor shaking Kathleen trying to force himself on top of her. She had a bloody handkerchief in her mouth, her wrist were cut. Dueller tackled Connor down at threw a slew of punches at him. Connor tried to fight back but he couldn't, Dueller grabbed up Kathleen and ran towards the car. Connor followed behind them, then Dueller put the car in drive and drove off. Leaving Connor stranded in the motel.

It was silent for a while as they drove along the road, towards New York, "You okay?" Dueller asked, looking at Kathleen who had her hand on her head. "Yeah, I-I guess my friends were right after all" She looked at Dueller, biting her lower lip. She felt something come over her, but she wasn't sure what it was. Dueller smiled back at her and took her hand. "There is no need to thank me" Dueller said, smiling. They stopped at the gas station parking lot, to take a break. Kathleen climbed into the backseat, "Come on Dueller" She said, biting her lower lip and tugging on Dueller's plaid shirt. "No, it's okay I'm find here" He said. She gave a puppy dog look, he climbed into the backseat with her. she pulled his neck down, and scratched the nape of his neck. She stared into his eyes and her stared back into hers. He leaned in and kissed her, and she pulled his body down further into his. Then, she slowly lifted up his shirt.

Stephanie was gnawing on down her index finger nail, watching another SNL skit. Yogurt, popcorn bags, candy wrappers, half bottles of water and soda and bowls was sprawled across the bedroom, in the middle of the dump was Stephanie. Ellie and Jacob walked into the room pinching their nose because of the smell, the quickly walked back out, since Stephanie still looked gloomy. "Come on Ellie, stop worrying about her" Jacob said, pulling Ellie. "Jacob I can't, so stop bothering me" Ellie said, pulling away. Jacob sighed "I'm really fed up with this relationship" He said. Ellie turned around quickly "What do you mean fed up?" "Ellie, we barely do anything anymore. Every time when I try to get your mind off of it, you won't let me do anything. Not even kiss me whether it is on the cheek or lip to lip" "Is that all you can really think about, huh? Then, why don't we just break up! We weren't meant to be Jacob, it's clear to see that you didn't like me for who I really was" Ellie said, she ran out of the bedroom down the stairs and the front door suddenly opened.

Kathleen come through the door with a boy following behind her, "Kat, you're back" Ellie said, rushing to hug her. "Yeah, and this is my friend, Dueller" Kathleen said, looking upset. She didn't realize what she had done with Dueller, she wasn't really planning for that, she was just planning that he would just protect her as she slept. She wished she had left in the front of the car, luckily it only lasted for a minuted before anything else came off. "Are you still taken?" Dueller joked. "I'm single now, but I'm not ready yet, Dueller. Just hang on there" Ellie said, winking. "I can't believe that you and Jacob already broke up" Kathleen said. Ellie took Dueller hand and lead him up the stair, Dueller kissed Ellie and Ellie pulled him down onto her.

They quickly shut the door, then Jacob walked in and saw Ellie with another guy kissing him. "Ellie, what are you doing?" Jacon asked, pulling the guy off of her. "I'm getting back at you Jacob, you said that you were fed up with this relationship, so could you live with me" Ellie said. "I could because I'm in love with you Ellie, I didn't really mean what I said. But I wasn't expecting you to move on this fast" Jacob looked at Dueller who was already getting ready to go back downstairs to Kathleen. Jacob kissed Ellie, "I'm sorry, I really am" He whispered. She straed into his eyes and then she kissed him back. "I'm so unluckly" Dueller whispered. As he walked towards the staircase, Stephanie came out and he stopped staring at her and she staring back at him.

Part Eleven: Let's Leave It At That

Kathleen put a spoonful of cereal into her mouth and chewed quickly, looking at the napkin laid in front of her. Ellie and Jacob could feel the tension in the atmosphere rise above, but they stayed silent, watching as if they were watching the Superbowl. "Where were you Kathleen Riverbed?" Stephanie asked, digging her fork into the soft and flaky pancake. "Oh, well, since you wanted to be with your lonesome self I decide to go to Connor's house. And in return, he gave me what I wanted" Kathleen said, challenging Stephanie. Stephanie choked on her pancake and she gulped down some water. Ellie lip got tighter and her fork stop mid-air in her hand, and her eyes were wider than they have been before. Jacob stopped chewing, but was trying to remove the substance with his tongue. Kathleen was the only one who smiling and humming happily, that was all she ever wanted.

She got up from the table, "Well, I got to go by Connor's house. Toddles, everyone!". When they heard the front door slammed, Jacob eyes fell into Ellie as he looked up. He gave Ellie a signal and looked across at Stephanie who was looking down at her breakfast and taking little gasp of breath. "Stephanie, You don't mind if we go ahead and just talk things through, don't you?" Jacob asked, with a serious look on his face. Stephanie looked up, "No,no not all. You two can go without me, really" Stephanie said, giving a fake smile. Ellie and Jacob got up from the table and walked upstairs. "Jacob, what are we going to do with Kathleen and Stephanie? It's clear to see that Kat, just might be head over heels with this guy" Ellie said, sitting on the bed next to Jacob. "If Kat really like this guy named, Connor, then it's her choice, but I know that Kat is falling slowly. Maybe she sees someone she knows in Connor" Jacob said, sitting at the edge of the bed looking down at the floor. "I'm glad I have you to help me get through things"Ellie commented, resting her head on Jacob's shoulders.

"Come on babe, it's going to be fun!" Connor said, following Kathleen around the house. Her arms were crossed and she wasn't listening. Connor grabbed by her waist and she started to laugh, they fall on top each other on the bed. "Why do you want to go on a road trip so bad? I mean, you don't even know how to drive" Kathleen said, looking up into Connor's brown sincere eyes. "I won't be driving, it's one my friends. Besides, I think it's a good idea for both of us to get away from everyone, just for a while" Connor explained, he got off of her and was holding her hand. Kathleen began blushing, looking down at the floor. "Let's go on the great escape" She whispered, in Connor's ear.

The sound of horn blew in the background as Connor was about to lean in and kiss her. "We can probably finishing what were starting" Connor said, raising an eyebrow. Kathleen playfully punched him in the arm "Stop it". Connor left the house first, Kathleen was still looking down at the floor feeling unsure about the road trip from New York to Maryland, she took a deep breath and put on her coat. She just have to face it.

"Where are we?" Kathleen complained, looking out the window. Everything look as if it was melting before their very eyes, as the car drove by. It was quiet now than before, after the constant smacking of lips and humming in the backseat. The driver, Dueller, looked crossed and distance as he only looked ahead of him. If Kathleen asked a question, he'll never answer. If they were making noise, he'll never look back at them and tell them to shut up. His dirty blonde hair glowed in the sunset and his beard was stubby, you can hear the prickle of the beard as he scratched it. His frosty blue eyes were cold and mean, his ears stuck out making him a sore thumb in a crowd. His mouth were small curved from the top like a perfect, pointy triangle, it was cherry red.

His dirty plaid shirt fitted his broad shoulders perfectly, the blue jeans and mud stains after filling up the car with gas, and his brown loafers did the driving hitting the brakes when the red light reflected off the sliver hood. His hands stayed firm on the steering wheel, blonde hair crept over his hands stopping midway between the rest of his fingers. His nose had been bruised at the brim, but it seems as if it has been fading away, now.

Kathleen clicked her tongue like a witch and turned her head towards the foggy window. Connor was wrapped around a gray blanket looking like a soggy, moldy black bean burrito that suddenly had grown into at thirteen year old human being, sleeping in a musty car heading to a motel in Maryland. Dueller turned into a parking lot, looking for a parking space. Kathleen caught a glimpse of motel's sign, "Maryland Local Motel: The Disneyland of all motel's across Maryland".

Dueller finally found a parking space, he turned off the car. Then, he turned around he hit Connor on his head. Kathleen caught a glimpse of his eyes and his shorten smile, but he stared at Kathleen instead, he got out of the car and opened the trunk where it was loaded with candy and other necessities. Connor stretched out his arms, and looked around the car with confused look on his face and it seemed to be as if he wanted to say "Where are we?". Instead, he looked in the back and saw Kathleen helping Dueller unload the things from the trunk and into their motel room. It was pouring outside and people were scattering around hurrying into their rooms. Connor come out of the car squinting his eyes, "Dueller, your staying with us?".

Dueller looked up from the trunk and saw Connor standing in the rain, his black hair wet and sticking onto his face like glue. "The weather is pretty much bad and I'm not taking any chances on getting into a car accident" Dueller took out a pack of cigarettes from his back pocket, and stuck it into his mouth. Kathleen was sitting on the bed inside the room, "The signal is out. At least the telephone works, and we have some snacks" She said, her cardigan slipping off shoulders, showing her bra strap. "We don't need the television or anything else, besides the snacks, all we need is each other" Connor said, sitting beside.

He leaned in and kissed her, when Dueller came in with the rest of the stuff. Connor and Kathleen quickly parted away, as they saw him come by. "Sorry for the interruption and all, but I just went to the front desk and they said that all the rooms were out, so I guess I'll sleeping here with you guys" Dueller said. His voice wasn't rusty like Arnold or sounded like he had throat replacement, it was easy tell that Dueller was from England, and Kathleen was spellbound by his English accent already. Connor rolled his eyes and looked at Kathleen who seemed to be fine with everything.

Part Ten: Until Then, Scream & Shout

"Ellie,Ellie wake up" A sleepy voice said. Ellie blinked her eyes a few times and saw Kathleen standing there with her pajamas on. "What time is it?" Ellie yawned, stretching and rubbing her eye. "I think it's 11 o'clock in the morning. How come your clock isn't on?" "Jacob unplug it because---I shouldn't even be answering that question, why are you here?". Kathleen sat next to her on the bed, gnawing on her pinkie nail. "Something happened last night. Stephanie and I were making out on the bed, but it felt so good being with her and all. But I'm still thinking about Connor, he is getting treatment and I think in the long run he is going to be fine" Kathleen confessed. Ellie looked at her with a face of confusion and shock. "Kat, I think you're bisexual" Ellie responded, in a matter-of-fact voice. Jacob shot up from the pillow, his face still drawn in sleepiness. He stretched out his arms, "Did someone say bisexual?". "You just love to see me suffer, don't you Jacob?" Kathleen asked. "Yes, I do, mainly because it is fun"Jacob teased, smiling at himself. He kissed Ellie and felt back onto the fluffy pillow sighing happily. "I think he is in love?" Kathleen stated, wrinkling her nose at Jacob who was sleeping and smiling.

"He is,with me. But moving on, what is up with that kiss you had with Stephanie?" Ellie said, sliding off the bed and pulling down Jacob's basketball shorts that she borrowed. "It just happened, like I said before. Why is your pajama shorts are still on the bed?" Kathleen asked. "I wasn't too comfortable," Ellie lied. Suddenly, Stephanie appeared in the room and wrapped her arms around Kathleen's neck "Good morning" Stephanie breathed into her ear. Ellie plop back down on the bed next to Jacob, he turned around, "There is nothing better than one lesbian who doesn't mind who is watching her, while the other one is like in a daze and felt like they came back from brain surgery" Jacob said, his eyes like diamonds looking up at Ellie.

Kathleen got up quickly and walked out of the room, seeming to be embarrassed. Stephanie turned around watching Kathleen storm off to her bedroom, she bit her lip and walked into the room. Jacob and Ellie exchange glances, Ellie laid back on the bed and cuddled with Jacob. "Can't believe you'll do that right in front of them!" Kathleen screamed. Hot tears ran down her cheek and she was shivering because it was cold in the morning. Stephanie looked up at her with forlorn eyes but not saying nothing at all. "You might as well pin me down on the bed or something right in front of them!" Kathleen continued to shout. "Look Kat, at least I'm not the one who is having a problem with showing off their sexuality. You can go back in time, you just have to live with it" Stephanie stated, with a fierce look in her eyes. Stephanie walked out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Kathleen stood there still shivering and wiping her tears away. Jacob and Ellie walked into the room together, they couldn't sleep after hearing the heated argument. "What could possibly go wrong now?" Ellie said, putting her hands on her hips. Kathleen was still staring out of the window, misty eyed. "Maybe we should just leave her alone Ellie" Jacob said, resting a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and follow behind him, going back to bed. Stephanie was trailing around the house pacing back and forth where it was comfortable. She wished she could have taken back what she said, but she couldn't go back in time, like she said.

Kathleen come down the stairs and ignored Stephanie, then she walked out of the door. Stephanie looked out of the window and watched Kathleen turned the corner, she wondered where she was going. Hopefully, she wasn't going to Connor's house. Kathleen took out the piece of paper and scam for the house. She finally found it and walked up to the little sliver gate, she unlatched it. Her heart beat was going faster than it ever went before, she walked up the stairs and nearly tripped on the last step. She press the doorbell, and Connor came out putting his fingers through his unruly black shaggy hair, his small muscles bleed through his black t-shirt and his plaid boxers were sliding. Kathleen soft hazel eyes looked up at Connor, it was full with tears but none was falling down her cheeks. His eyes met hers, he took her hand, "You can come inside". She didn't turn her back, she went with him. He knew what she wanted, so why not give it to her?
"I wonder where Kat is. She hasn't came home since eleven o'clock this morning"Stephanie said, digging her fork into the gumbo. "Maybe she went to see Connor" Ellie said, in annoyance. That was the exact thing Stephanie did not want to here, but she kept quiet for a while. Kathleen was holding Connor's hand and smiling briefly at him. The moon peaked in through the light curtains, seeping through the light sheet that both Connor and Kathleen were under. Connor stroke her cheek, and she just smiled. It hadn't struck that she was in bed with a abusive boy, but it seem as if she didn't care what the others think of him. She liked him for who he is, "Connor, did you get treatment for your anger issues and all sorts of things that relate to that?" Kathleen asked, propping up on one elbow. He looked at her for awhile, then he suck in his bottom lip and released it [he did this 5 times]. "Yeah, I take these pills" Connor said, reaching the bottle capped pills that was on his night table. Kathleen hold his hands "Good, because I want you to be with me".

It was already midnight and Stephanie was lying on the bed, her eyes were wide and she was looking up at the ceiling. The shades were opened they made moonlit stripes across her face, she thought Kathleen was dead. Ellie separated herself from Jacob, she wasn't in the mood to do anything. She had too much things on her mind, she felt as if she had no heartbeat at all. She just wanted to go home and cry on her mother's shoulder, or at least Jacob's shoulder. Ellie turned around "Jacob" She sniffled. Tears were running down her cheeks, Jacob turned around and pulled Ellie into him, letting her rest her head on his chest. He stroked her cheek, wiping the tears away. He gave a kiss on her forehead and then they fell asleep.

Kathleen kicked off Connor's boxer and slid on her jeans. Connor was sitting at the edge of the bed combing his fingers through his unruly black hair. "Why do you have to leave? You can just stay here, with me, and just cuddle even have some hot chocolate" Connor said, pulling Kathleen by her waist and giving a devilish smile. "I would love to, but I can't, my friends and so called ex-girlfriend, would be very worried about me. Besides, won't your guardian be home anytime soon?" Kathleen asked, getting out of his grip and whipping her hair into a ponytail. "That bastard don't come home until I leave for school the next morning. So usually, I go to my mother house, but I don't stay there her and her boyfriend always has fights. She sent me out just to please him, but I didn't mind, since I had no say in it after all" Connor said, squinting his eyes and kept on shrugging. "Hey, I don't worry about it. She'll regret for ever kicking out of the house for that bum. You've got me anyways," Kathleen whispered, she kissed him ever so gentle on his lips. "Good bye". Connor escorted her out of the door and watched her unlatched the sliver gate, and disappear into the dim round streetlight. "Maybe everything will go fine" Connor thought. But somehow, he did seem to hear the word 'ex-girlfriend' rolled out of Kathleen's tongue and out of her mouth.

Part Nine: Heartfelt Moments

"Go, you're acting like a punk" Stephanie whispered, angrily pushing Jacob to the door. The finally reached up to the house, the house seemed like it was covered with moss and dust. Jacob was afraid to even take a deep breath because of the all accumulated dust and moss. He knocked on the door and they began hearing shuffling against the creaking floorboards. The doorknob began to turn and they heard small voices inside. The door flew open, a man was standing there with plaid pants, a lumberjack shirt, and fuzzy blue slippers. His eyebrows were thick with anger and he face had no emotional expression.
"Mr.Lippmann, we have a problem and we came to talk to you" Ellie said, in a pleasant voice. Before Arnold could answer a grey cat sprang out of the door and began running down the road. "Damn cat, he'll come back anyways. Now, I hope you kids ain't here to talk about puberty and stuff like that because I don't do that crap anymore" Arnold's voice was deep and rusty like dry oil on a motor, he had a full set of hair on his had and his beard was neatly shave. His green eyes had a coldness in them, when he frown you can see the crease of happiness around his mouth and under his small eyes. He never smiled before, he always had straight white lip or just a frown. "No, sir we was wondering if you knew about Connor. Connor Brooks." Kathleen said, wincing a few times. "You mean there is another Brooks. What in the hell is going on in today's society? These are the reasons why I moved up here," Arnold mumbled. "You kids can come on inside".

They walked into the small cottage, inside it smelled like Pine Sol, reminding Ellie of camp when they had bunk inspections. The fire was crackling and was setting a dim light in the small, cramped place. Arnold came back with a tray full with 5 mugs. Jacob took a sip, "What is this?" He asked. "Bugs, dirt, mint leafs, and herbal plants. All boiled together in one pot, they bugs are good for the protein and the rest is to give it flavor" Arnold responded. Everyone spit out the substance , except Arnold. "Do have anything normal drink? Like green tea, coffee, orange juice" Stephanie asked, feeling like a bum. "Like I said a million times before. I don't do any of that crap I used to do. You either go home and watch celebrities turned to full fledged alcoholics or shut that damn trap of yours and drink your lumberjack tea" Arnold said, angrily his eyebrows furrowing with anger. Stephanie quickly picked up the mug and gulped down her drink, she stayed quiet for the rest of the time.

Arnold eyebrows furrowed, but he wasn't angry. He was thinking. They were waiting. Jacob took out his cellphone and began to text message the others, "There isn't any service here, son" Arnold warned him. Jacob put the cellphone back into his pocket. "I don't know how to really tell you kids this, in a civilized way. This isn't the first time someone has come to about Connor Brooks. Connor isn't the type of what I called the perfect ripe apple from the tree he's more like the rotten apple who splatted onto the ground and spreads the rottenness around the world," Arnold began. Everyone looked at him weirdly as he tried to explain.

"Connor grew up with a family of weirdos and anger problems. His father was known around the city, he was the lawyer of an infamous crime that shocked the nation, the mass murder of 20 people all in one day. His father won the case, but after that case his life dramatically change. The gruesome images and the mind of the mass murderer replayed in his mind, he couldn't sleep, he couldn't think. He just blew up, he gone crazy. Abraham Brooks, was his name, he began drinking more often, he hit his children and his wife. That abuser soon ran out of the city leaving a legacy behind. But later he returned in the New York Times they said he raped a woman. But he stayed with the woman, to take care of the baby. Connor was born that time, in 1992. Then Abraham left the woman behind, no one heard from him again. But as a child, Abraham would abuse Connor. Like father, like son, Connor was caught up in a mix up too. He was charged with battery assault, for abusing his girlfriend. Nowadays, I'm hearing that he begins to sing and dance out of the blue. That is his way of controlling his anger, they taught him that in anger management class. I wish the kid could just find someone to cry a shoulder on, I'm sorry if you're getting a heartfelt moment" Arnold apologized. Everyone in the room was tearing up in the room.

EllieChic:I guess that is why people say don't judge a book by its cover
KittyKat: That was depressing
Miss.StephanieCornell: I wish I hadn't said what I said before about him
DJJacob: I wish you hadn't said a thing when we were there.
Miss.StephanieCornell: Shut up Jacob! At least I'm not the one who is always asking for more.
DJJacob: What are you talking about? I never asked for more about anything.

"Ellie, do you know what Stephanie was talking about how I always ask for more?" Jacob asked. They were already in bed and Ellie head was rested against her own pillow. "No, I don't have clue about what she was talking about" Ellie lied. "I had a strange feeling that she was talking about when the time we did it. You didn't perhaps, you know, told them about our secret moment. While I was in the shower" Jacob asked, turning to her. Ellie moved up closer to him, "I'll just tell the truth. Jacob, I did told them but I didn't mean to me. I mean, I was too overwhelmed and it felt as if I was drugged or something" She was staring at him waiting for a word to come out of his mouth. "Ellie, would we you do that? You know that was our private moment, a moment we should only keep to ourselves. It was time when we experienced it for the first time and the time we expressed our true feelings for each other" Jacob stated, placing his hands on her stomach. "But I wasn't thinking. It wasn't like I had someone who told me about their experience doing it and told me the guidelines and rules of it" She pointed out. His finger crawled up undershirt, she felt his fingers but she didn't remove it. He smiled at her, she knew he had forgiven her. Then she climbed on top of him and pulled up the covers.

"I think I should call Connor" Kathleen said. The television was blaring and the girls sat together eating potato chips and searching for anything that is entertaining and maybe a little bit of stupidity . That show for them was Saturday Night Live. Stephanie began to laugh as she watched Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler speak in German on Weekend Update. "He is CRAZY. Why do you want to see him so badly?" Stephanie asked, forcing some more potato chips in her mouth. "I'm just worried about him that's all" Kathleen stated. "What can I do to get your mind off him?" Stephanie asked, looking at her. "There isn't a thing you can do can get my mind off of him" Kathleen teased. Stephanie kissed Kathleen and they began making out. Stephanie pulled away, "What did I tell you?". "I can't beileve what just happened" Kathleen said. She pulled Stephanie close to her again and kissed her back.

Part Eight: The Dinner Times

"Table for four , please. In a booth" Jacob directed the waiter. The waiter lead them to the booth, and set down their forks and spoons. "I heard they served the best sushi in town. Oh, they also served the best alcoholic mixed drinks" Stephanie, removing her coat. "You're not going drink are you?" Kathleen asked, shaking from the coldness, "Nope, I'll probably just have water. I have to get sober" Stephanie pointed out. "I was thinking, maybe we can do it again tonight" Jacob whispered into Ellie ear. "Jacob, we can't do that. Are you crazy do you want to get me--" "Are you ready to order?" another waiter interrupted his notepad already out. Kathleen bite her lower lip as she stared up the waiter, with his brown eyes sparkling in the dim light. "He is cute" Kathleen whispered in Stephanie's ear. She pulled out her cellphone and began to text message.
Kathleen: The waiter is cute, I wonder if he'll be interested in me?
Ellie: You're just saying that. I know your plan. You're going use him to lose your virginity and then dump him like the poor waiter boy he is.
Stephanie: Now you see why I didn't respond.
Kathleen: Okay, that was my plan at first. However, I still want to get to know him before things goes too fast. Like when the touching begins and where it ends. I'm not like you two.
Ellie: Kat, you've only met the guy like 50 seconds ago.
Kathleen: 10 seconds less from a minute
Stephanie: 59 minutes less from a hour!
Ellie: Just forget about it. I have serious problem on my hand.
Stephanie: Jacob said that you guys should do it again tonight.
Ellie: How did you know that?
Stephanie: Been there, done that! Did you tell him no ?
Ellie: Yeah.
Kathleen: That is the most important thing Ellie, if you didn't tell him no, there is a chance that he would've wanted more and more after that.
Stephanie: Thank God! the hamburgers and my sushi + caviar is here!
Ellie: You brought caviar?(!) You are paying for dinner.
Stephanie: Thanks a lot for my craving of raw fish eggs.

"Hey, I'm sorry for bringing up the whole thing about us doing it again" Jacob said, as he walked into the room. "It's okay. I'm just really glad that you understand why I said no" Ellie said, hugging him. "I know, I guess it was because I was with you. I mean, Ellie really you've make me feel special. I always thought that my Dad only had that affect on me, but I realize that you can make me feel this way" He said, holding onto Ellie. She smiled at him and began kissing him, just so he can forget about everything. Stephanie bobbed her head up and down as she cranked up "When You Were Young" by The Killers, she dance around the house when she suddenly heard the doorbell. She turned off the music and answered the door, "Oh, it's waiter boy. What brings you here?" Stephanie asked, her hands on her hips. "I am her to return this coat to Kathleen Riverbed, and perhaps get a chance to talk to her" He responded, looking shyly down at his shoes. Kathleen appeared in the doorway "I got this one Stephanie" She said, pushing her out of the doorway. "Just watch him, he looks like the evil type who just wants--" "Stephanie. Leave. Now" Kathleen pointed out. "So stingy".

"Thanks for returning my coat, that was really sweet of you" Kathleen beamed. "I'm just that type of person. The random act of kindness kind of person, I mean" He said, looking up at her and blushing. "What's your name?" "Connor Brooks" He stop blushing and was smiling, then he started to sing and dance out of the blue. Kathleen stared at him weirdly and closed the door. He stopped when he realized she had already gone inside and began to walk home. "Stephanie, we need to go and see him tomorrow morning" Kathleen said, rushing into the room. "I told you so. Why don't you tell Ellie and Jacob?" Stephanie said, pulling up her sleeping pants. "You're right. I'll go tell them now" "Don't go in the room, you don't know what they're doing in there" "Yes I do. They're sleeping". Kathleen stormed off into their room and saw the two of them talking quietly, it was easy to see they were completely wrap up with each other. "You guys, we going to see him tomorrow in the morning" Kathleen said, sitting beside Jacob. "Why?There isn't any point in seeing him anyhow, maybe there is if he is dead" Jacob complained, sitting up and putting his arm around Ellie's shoulder. "Jacob, that is a good idea" Ellie said. "What is? Us going to him if he was dead?" Jacob questioned. "No. About the four of us going to him, he could help us , mostly Stephanie really". "So I guess we agree that we are going to see him tomorrow morning" Kathleen said. "Uh, I didn't have a say in this" Jacob pointed out. "One against three, you lost" Kathleen skipped out of the room.

Ellie, Jacob, Kathleen and Stephanie walked up the curved road. The sun was beginning to rise and the smell of mildew filed up their nostrils in the distance. Perched on top of the hill was a small cottage filled with vines, Jasmine flowers, and carnations flowers. They foursome left the house 4:00AM, they knew it would be a long trip to reach to him. Everyone in school knew who him was, but they never dare go up to the hill. Him shut himself away from everyone, they all said he was crazy, they all said the he needed to get away from everyone. He was a recluse, a hermit. He was living in total solitude. He didn't need no one, in his life. He felt as if he couldn't trust no one, he could easily see who he could trust and who he could not trust. You'll rarely see anyone walking up that curved yellow brick road and entering the house of Arnold Lippmann: The Reclusive.
